About the Artist
Jackie Meier grew up in the Midwest. She has loved painting since she was a child and began selling her artwork to family members while still in high school. She attended college and graduated with a B.A. in art education. For several years she worked in advertising as a production artist, then a graphic designer and finally an art director. Her experiences working in the commercial art field served her well, and eventually led her back to her first love, fine arts, specifically mixed-media paintings. She attended the Milan Art Institute where her focus shifted to oils and mixed-media.
Her childhood was difficult, in that she lost her father to emphysema when she was just 10 years old. This left her with fears of abandonment and invisibility, which she struggled with for years. She found strength and visibility through her relationship with God, and by expressing her deepest emotions with a brush and canvas. Jackie says, “Sharing our deepest emotions is what allows us to be truly human.”
Today, Jackie paints and offers classes in her studio in the former Portage Elementary School in Port Clinton, Ohio. She lives with her husband Donald, whom she has been married to for 31 years, and her dog Louie, who she got from a shelter in the fall of 2022. She enjoys having booths at art festivals throughout the Midwest and also shares her work in a variety of online venues.
